Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure designed to improve the chin in order to harmonize with the rest of the face. It can enlarge and improve the contour of almost any undersized or receding chin. The chin surgery procedure is safe and the results are permanent.
Chin surgery procedure can be accomplished either through the insertion of implants for chin enlargement or advancement, or by chin reduction surgery to enhance the less prominent facial profile.
Chin augmentation procedure is carried out to provide improvement for a small chin.
The plastic surgeon carries out the chin augmentation procedure by making a small incision inside the mouth or underneath the chin to create a small pocket above the chin bone and below the muscle.
The other popular technique, known as chin reduction procedure is intended to treat a poorly developed chin. The plastic surgery procedure is carried out by making an incision inside the mouth, taking a portion of the chin bone and moving it slightly forward to augment the contour.
At the Plastic Surgery Institute of California, our board certified plastic surgeons are dedicated to provide the highest level of care and attention to safety for the chin surgery procedures.
